The whitetail portion of the ranch is well known in our area for producing the largest deer in the state. The 2300 acres are a hunter's paradise. You'll see around 60 white tail deer and 6 bucks a day. The average buck will score 130-140 pts with a few reaching 150 pts. The ranch has everything from timber, cottonwoods, buck brush, and CRP fields. There are also two creeks that run year round.
Our Columbia whitetail hunts are offered on 7,000 acres of private land in Douglas County, OR and we receive five coveted tags annually for our leased properties. Rolling wheat and alfalfa fields, rimrock canyons, sagebrush covered grasslands, creek beds and open range are the hunting grounds for our Rocky Mountain Mule Deer - the ideal habitat for native deer. Our expert guides work hard to ensure our guests bring home the largest mule deer in the region. Hunters can expect to see high numbers of deer during this classic Western-style, spot-and-stalk hunt. Expect to harvest mature 4-point buck that typically score 150+ SCI.
Hunter’s Rendezvous outfits and guides in some of the best Mule Deer habitat and gene pools anywhere in the west. We hunt a huge private area that we have managed for several years to produce world class Mule Deer. We have harvested numerous bucks over 200” from this area and lots of big old management bucks. My management objective is to let all of the bucks with good genetics (a buck that has a chance of busting 180”) grow to at least 7 years old, let them breed some does during the rut, then hunt them during their peak antler growth years. These are the bucks we hunt on our “Trophy Hunts”. This style of management combined with the difficulty of hunting mature Mule Deer bucks pre-rut, also produces some really big bucks that won’t bust 180” ever. These bucks are hunted on “Management Hunts”.
Trophy Mule Deer Hunting at Pioneer Outfitters is a great hunt in which you will have a chance to harvest a trophy Mule Deer. This is a 5 day hunt with a professional guide, lodging, meals, and all ranch transportation included. Trophy bucks ranging between 160 to 205 Boone and Crockett points.
Our goal is to provide a season long, quality, no pressure opportunity at mature mule deer and resident elk. Our style is not a fenced in hunt but we encourage our hunting guest to enjoy the entire hunting experience from the quiet stalk to high five after the shot.
The resident Mule Deer population at Ruggs is tremendous! The forage, water and cover keep them very content and healthy. If a big Muley is on your hunting bucket list the archery season opens in mid September with rifle season following the first of October. The Big Game Camp is set up for your comfort and convenience. Chef John “Cookie” Kulon will accompany the hunt team and prepare all meals in camp. Our big game guides have the experience and know how to get you on the buck of your dreams.
I will do everything in my power to make your hunt successful and enjoyable. I have been on guided hunts that I was very disappointed with. I wasn't disappointed because I didn't harvest an animal. I was disappointed because the guide didn't give 100% effort. I don't base the success of a hunt on killing an animal but on the whole experience, and if the guide gives 100%, then I will leave happy, whether I harvest an animal or not.
